Tsunami 2006

“A Pirate’s Paradise” In Review

A Pirate's Paradise

The 2006 Tsunami On The Square festival was without a doubt the most popular in the history of the event. From the June 16th Musical Showcase featuring The Dambe Project, Natural History and Native American superstars Blackfire, to the Art On Wheels Parade and Saturday Night Finale featuring ArcheDream and Flam Chen, over 5,500 people from all over the state came out to attend Tsunami On The Square 2006.

Festival surveys highlighted the bigger, better and more outrageous Art On Wheels Kickoff Parade, now in its second year. In addition to 17+ wildly decorated artcars (and scooters, and firetrucks), this year's parade saw Circus Campers on bikes and in costume as well as local kids in wagons and other decorated  "art on wheels."   Thanks a lot to all the Moms and Dads who helped their kids participate!

Also popular in 2006 was the addition of performance workshops by The Dambe Project, Axe Capoeira, and Flam Chen, which gave audience members the chance to learn more about African drumming, Capoeira, and Poi, respectively.

Topping the bill as a new addition in 2006 was Philadelphia's ArcheDream for Humanity blacklight theatre ensemble. This innovative young group of cutting-edge performers clearly found a home at Tsunami in 2006, garnering rave reviews from festival surveys and general audience response. Flam Chen's futuristic tribal masterpiece "The Radiance" was the perfect festival finale.

Oh, and people seemed to like the pirates, too.

A big round of applause who helped to make Tsunami 2006 a success. We couldn't have done it without you!
